Washington Job Summary Under general supervision, functions as an attorney performing entry-level legal work representing clients in criminal cases in Cook County. Responsibilities include handling appeals, misdemeanors, delinquency petitions, abuse and neglect cases, habeas corpus, preliminary hearings, and minor felonies. Provides legal services, advises clients on court procedures, and may serve in bond court and juvenile detention court during weekends and holidays. Minimum Qualifications Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctorate degree (required). Licensed to practice law in Illinois or will obtain license by the time of hire (required). Additional Requirements Candidates must produce original documents such as driver’s license, diploma, transcripts, or certifications within five days of offer. Degrees from outside the U.S. must be credentialed by WES, ECE, or NACES. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Thorough knowledge of legal principles, effective communication skills, ability to interact with diverse populations, conduct trial advocacy, and collaborate with social and legal professionals. Ability to handle sensitive social issues and conduct investigations. Additional Notes This position requires successful completion of post-offer tests, including background checks, drug screens, and medical examinations.
