Overview

The Complex Account Unit in our Workers' Compensation Corporate Underwriting department is seeking an Underwriter II to join our team. The newly established Complex Account Unit is dedicated to underwriting and managing WC accounts that fall outside of regional underwriting authority based on account size, complexity, hazards and exposures, service requirements, agency profile, etc. These high-profile accounts offer the team significant exposure to c-suite level executives both internal and external.

The Complex Account Unit delivers significant value to our brokers by providing them with underwriting capability for their workers' compensation insurance needs that are best addressed on an individual risk basis.

The role of this underwriter is to underwrite and service new and renewal accounts that fit within the Complex Account Unit in compliance with company underwriting, authority and pricing standards. This person will maintain a solid understanding of AmTrust's mission, vision, and values. Upholds the standards of the AmTrust organization.

This position is a remote opportunity for those 50 miles or more from an AmTrust office. Those located within a 50 mile radius are expected to abide by our hybrid schedule of 3 days on-site and 2 days work from home.

Responsibilities
    Write and retain a profitable book of business through solid risk analysis, pricing, and servicing. Maintains compliance with state filings and adheres to corporate underwriting and pricing guidelines. Operate within written authority grant and makes referrals to Management as required.
  1. Collaborate closely with territory team. Keep peers and Complex Account Unit Management informed of all issues and activity and competitive information.
  2. Collaborate with Regional Sales Manager and Business Generation Consultants to develop agency relationships and share accountability with team in meeting unit goals.
  3. Educate agents on underwriting appetite to attract profitable business.
  4. Travel in the territory to meet with agents to further develop business relationships as needed.
  5. Provide professional, timely and courteous communication and service to external clients and cross departmental staff to successfully resolve issues pertaining to policyholders and producers.
  6. Provide pertinent information and guidance to operations staff required to process coverage requests in accordance with service guidelines.
  7. Keeps current with market trends and demands.
  8. Performs other functionally related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • 5+ years of workers compensation experience
  • Demonstrated experience with and expert technical knowledge of workers compensation coverage and risk selection, methods and pricing.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and analyze data and make an informed, calculated risk decision.
  • Ability to make sound contributions to tactical and strategic planning.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong computer skills (Excel/Word/Sharepoint) with demonstrated high accuracy output.

Preferred:

  • Experience underwriting workers compensation for large accounts
  • Ability to train, coach and mentor individuals of various backgrounds within area of expertise.
  • CPCU, AIS or CIC designation preferred or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

The expected salary range for this role is $66,900.00/Yr. - $85,000/Yr.
