Job Description Job Overview - Occupational Therapist (School-Based Services):
Compensation: $50/hour
Location: Brooklyn, NY
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM - 2:00 PM TAG MedStaffing is hiring an Occupational Therapist (School-Based Services) with our client in Brooklyn, NY. In this school-based role, you will conduct evaluations, develop treatment plans, and provide OT interventions to support students' motor, sensory, and functional development. You will collaborate with teachers, parents, and multidisciplinary teams and contribute to IEPs to help students succeed in the classroom. Ideal for OTs passionate about pediatric therapy and developmental support.
Responsibilities as the Occupational Therapist: - Student Evaluations: Conduct screenings and comprehensive evaluations to assess sensory processing, motor skills, perceptual abilities, and functional school participation.
- Treatment Planning & Intervention: Develop individualized intervention plans and deliver school-based OT services that support motor development, sensory integration, and classroom engagement.
- Clinical Documentation: Prepare detailed evaluation reports, treatment notes, progress updates, and required documentation in accordance with school and regulatory standards.
- Collaboration & IEP Support: Work closely with teachers, parents, and related service teams, provide classroom strategies, and participate in IEP meetings with goal recommendations.
- Parent & Staff Education: Demonstrate therapeutic approaches, guide staff on implementing motor and sensory activities, and provide parents with strategies to promote independence at home.
Qualifications for the Occupational Therapist: - Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program with completed fieldwork requirements.
- Licensure: Active New York State Occupational Therapy license required.
- Certification: Certification by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) required.
- Experience: 1+ years of pediatric, school-based, or developmental occupational therapy experience strongly preferred.
- Technical Skills: Strong assessment, documentation, and intervention skills with familiarity in sensory integration and motor development frameworks.
- Industry Knowledge: Understanding of IEP development, special education processes, related service requirements, and school-based regulatory standards.
- Skills & Attributes: Collaborative, adaptable OT with strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills, able to support students with diverse developmental needs.
