The Staff Accountant works closely with the Accounting Manager to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records and reports. This position primarily focuses on performing assigned general ledger tasks, assisting in month-end closing processes, supporting the timely and accurate preparation of financial statements. The Staff Accountant ensures compliance with company policies, handles various reconciliations, and supports audits and other financial reporting tasks as needed.

We are seeking a bilingual Staff Accountant who is fluent in one or more of BHSD's five threshold languages: English, Chinese, Spanish, Tagalog, and Vietnamese. The ideal candidate will have a passion for serving diverse communities, excellent communication skills, and the ability to deliver culturally competent services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The essential functions of this position include but are not limited to the following.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform general ledger tasks, including preparing and posting journal entries, maintaining GL account reconciliations, and ensuring the accuracy of financial records.
  • Reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts, such as cash, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and accruals.
  • Prepare and maintain schedules for recurring journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve accounting issues and improve processes.
  • Assist in month-end and year-end closing processes, supporting timely and accurate preparation of financial statements.
  • Assist the Accounting Manager in preparing financial reports, variance analysis, and ad-hoc financial reports.
  • Assist with internal and external audits by providing supporting documentation and explanations as required.
  • Provide backup support for Accounts Payable and Payroll functions, including data entry, processing payments, and responding to inquiries as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Accounting Manager or CFO.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting roles, Experience with accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general ledger functions.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices, with the ability to apply them effectively in a non-profit environment.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with team members at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
