Role Overview

The Radiology Assistant (RA) is a critical frontline support role responsible for maintaining uninterrupted radiologist workflows and ensuring timely, high-quality patient care. Acting as the first point of contact for operational and workflow-related issues, the RA supports radiologists in real time, resolves common workflow disruptions, and coordinates escalations with IT, PACS, and vendor support teams when needed.

This role is operational and workflow-focused, not a system build, PACS administration, or engineering position.

Key Responsibilities

\t•\tHanging protocol or viewer display concerns

\t•\tProvide calm, efficient support in high-acuity and time-sensitive clinical situations

\t•\tSupport call-center style workflows, including call handling, prioritization, and tracking

Study & Worklist Management

\t•\tAssist with study routing, reassignment, and verification of correct destinations

\t•\tConfirm study completeness, image availability, and report visibility

\t•\tMonitor radiologist worklists for stuck, duplicated, delayed, or misrouted exams

\t•\tIdentify workflow issues before they escalate to clinical delays

Basic Technical Troubleshooting (Level 1)

\t•\tPerform initial triage of PACS, RIS, dictation, reporting, and viewer-related issues

\t•\tValidate user access, missing images, performance concerns, and dictation problems

\t•\tDistinguish operational issues from system-level problems requiring escalation

Escalation & Issue Coordination

\t•\tEscalate unresolved issues to PACS administrators, IT teams, or vendors with complete and accurate documentation

\t•\tRemain engaged through resolution, ensuring follow-through and communication back to the radiologist

\t•\tAct as a liaison between clinical users and technical support teams

Communication & Documentation

\t•\tDocument all interactions, actions taken, and outcomes in the designated ticketing system

\t•\tProvide proactive status updates to radiologists and stakeholders

\t•\tMaintain clear, professional communication under pressure

Out of Scope

\t•\tSystem configuration, build, or administrative changes

\t•\tClinical interpretation or medical decision-making

\t•\tPACS administration responsibilities

\t•\tVendor engineering or software development functions

Required Skills & Qualifications

\t•\tStrong understanding of radiology workflows and terminology

\t•\tWorking knowledge of PACS, RIS, and radiology reporting/dictation systems

\t•\tAbility to prioritize tasks based on clinical urgency and patient impact

\t•\tExcellent verbal and written communication skills

\t•\tHigh attention to detail, professionalism, and reliability

\t•\tComfort working in a fast-paced, remote support environment

Preferred Background

\t•\tRadiology operations, imaging informatics support, or clinical IT support experience

\t•\tPrior experience supporting radiologists in a production reading environment

\t•\tExperience with ticketing systems and call-center style workflows

Performance & Success Metrics
