Overview:
Reporting to the RVP of Warehouse Distribution, the primary role of this position is to
develop and oversee the QA/QC-Food Safety program for multiple distribution centers.
This includes maintaining documentation regarding HACCP, GMP, SOP, and employee
training. The Quality Food Safety Manager is also a team leader for third party audits.
Assures compliance with applicable quality, food safety and regulatory standards.
Support, implement, and maintain food safety and quality practices as required through
internal and external standards. This position will oversee the management of the
QA/QC-Food Safety program, and will develop, implement and monitor company
policies and procedures as related to Food Safety, Food Security, and Quality
Assurance programs. Coordinates and follows up on activities by performing the
following duties personally with the assistance of site leadership.
Responsibilities:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Actively support warehouse activities by providing technical support and leadership as part of the distribution leadership team.
- Work with distribution leadership teams to communicate issues, feedback and reporting (including KPI’s).
- Assure that all process parameters, sanitation procedures, and finished products comply with Customer, Company, State and Federal standards.
- Manage and audit quality programs and maintain proper documentation.
- Assure that HACCP/Food Safety plans are fully implemented and monitored for all associated sites. Responsible for validating changes to food safety fundamentals.
- Provide managerial and technical leadership to associated distribution facilities assuring that there are appropriate resources to support activities, and performance management.
- Direct the implementation, process and follow-up to corrective action items for audits, and inspections by internal, 3rd party, and regulatory bodies.
- Support the development and ongoing execution of compliance management programs at the regional and site levels.
- Regularly monitor internal processes and conduct audits to assess compliance with established food safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
- Establish measurements of compliance including KPIs (key process indicators).
- Support action plans to close compliance gaps and non-conformances.
- Coordinate scheduling of internal and external audits and maintain an annual schedule of audits.
- Ensure compliance to routines for audit preparation and CAPA (corrective and preventive action) management for non-conformances.
- Support on-site audits as required. Ensures that our customers receive the highest quality product in a food safe environment.
- Prepare reports on compliance status, audit findings, corrective actions, and quality performance metrics, highlighting areas for improvement and recommending strategies for enhancing compliance performance.
- Oversee the documentation and record-keeping processes related to Food Safety and Quality compliance activities, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and accessibility of records. Ensures proper document control for all documentation within associated facilities.
- Analyze data, identify trends, and prepare reports and summaries.
- Identify and share insights for continuous improvement initiatives to enhance systems, processes, and performance.
- Review and analyze applicable standards pertaining to food safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Determine the impact of changes in standards on QA/QC programs; recommend and support revisions to policies and procedures in response to changes in standards.
- Execute internal programs to drive practical continuous improvement activities, ensuring facility compliance with internal policies, regulations, and external audit standards.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as required by the role and determined by management.
Qualifications:
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Food Science and Technology or related scientific major preferred. 5-7 years of experience leading Quality/Food Safety teams in a high-speed distribution environment. A combination of education, training and experience that results in demonstrated competency to perform the work may be substituted.
- GFSI (SQF, BRC, FSSC 22000, IFS, etc.), PCQI, Food Defense and HACCP certifications strongly preferred.
- Proven leadership capabilities to coach and develop associates, driving a culture of safety, inclusion, engagement, and accountability.
- Experience in promoting a culture of Food Safety among all warehouse associates through education and policy enforcement along with fellow department leaders.
- Experience with oversight of Quality, Food Safety and Sanitation programs and evaluates for compliance through regular audits, inspections, and risk assessments, ensuring that Corrective Actions are performed for any non- conformance.
- Experience in leading third-party audits including SQF (Safe Quality Foods) and AIB (American Institute of Baking).
- Track record of continuous improvement by ensuring that LEAN tools and 5S are practiced.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work within cross-functional teams. Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and professionally both verbally, non-verbally and in writing.
- Strong Computer application skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Gmail, Google Meet for virtual training and ability to utilize Safety Management System.
- Strong collaboration, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Must be results-oriented with the ability to drive continuous improvement within the Safety organization as well as the overall organization.
Other:
- Ability to travel nationally at varying frequencies (up to 50%) and work irregular hours as required based on business demand.
- Ability to walk within and around distribution facilities and surrounding property with great frequency.
- Should be able to work in environments with variable noise levels, lighting conditions and temperature variation and able to access all areas of building without limitations.
