Job Description
Project Engineer – Marine / Waterfront Construction
Oahu, HI • $80,000–$115,000 (DOE)
About the CompanyMy client is one of Hawai‘i’s most established and respected builders, known for delivering complex waterfront, civil, and vertical projects across the islands. Their marine division supports critical infrastructure—piers, bulkheads, wharfs, utilities, and shoreline structures—that play a direct role in Hawai‘i’s transportation, defense, and commercial operations.
Their work reflects the same precision, discipline, and reliability expected of the major marine and heavy civil contractors in the state. They operate with strong field leadership, deep technical expertise, and a commitment to safety and environmental stewardship.
This is a stable, career-building environment with long-standing clients, multi-year project pipelines, and leadership that invests in developing well-rounded engineers.
About the RoleMy client is seeking a Project Engineer (Waterfront – Marine Structures) to support field operations and coordination on active marine infrastructure projects. This role is hands-on, field-focused, and essential to delivering safe, high-quality waterfront structures.
You’ll support marine concrete operations, structural steel installation, waterfront utilities, environmental compliance, and coordination with agencies and inspectors—ideal for someone interested in developing deep expertise in marine and heavy civil construction.
Key ResponsibilitiesReview and process submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, and technical documentation for marine structures and utilities.
Provide daily engineering support for marine concrete pours, steel erection, formwork operations, and utility tie-ins.
Track and document QA/QC testing including concrete breaks, coatings, and structural steel inspections.
Assist with scheduling updates, procurement tracking, equipment planning, and long-lead coordination.
Prepare daily reports, safety documentation, environmental compliance logs, and inspector communications.
Coordinate work between subcontractors, consultants, divers, inspectors, and field teams.
Support field issue resolution with owners, engineers, and government representatives (NAVFAC/USACE projects often require same-day responsiveness).
Help maintain strict adherence to EM 385-1-1, OSHA requirements, and environmental protections.
Maintain a consistent field presence supporting superintendents and trade crews.
Understand construction sequencing unique to waterfront and marine scopes.
Identify conflicts between marine scopes and adjacent civil/utility work and communicate early.
Deliver accurate, timely documentation that supports compliance, reporting, and project closeout.
Represent my client’s standards for safety, professionalism, and high-quality execution.
Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, Marine Engineering, or Construction Management.
3–6 years of construction experience , preferably with exposure to heavy civil, marine, or waterfront work.
Knowledge of marine concrete, structural steel, shoring/cofferdams, or utility systems preferred.
Familiarity with NAVFAC/USACE standards is a plus.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Bluebeam; experience with P6 or MS Project desirable.
Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and technical procedures.
Competitive Salary: $80,000–$115,000 (DOE)
Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, PTO, Holidays, 401(k) with match
Legacy & Stability: Work with a builder known for major civil, waterfront, commercial, and resort projects
Career Growth: Strong mentorship and clear pathways into senior engineering, superintendent, or project management roles
Impact: Contribute to critical waterfront infrastructure that supports Hawai‘i’s economy and community resilience
If this opportunity aligns with your background, please apply by submitting your resume and a brief summary of your marine, waterfront, or heavy civil experience.
Qualified applicants will be contacted for next steps.
