This is a 12 month limited term position that may be extended and/or may become permanent pending budget approval.The Integrating Employment in Recovery Program is a pilot program that will promote employment services in substance use treatment. This will be accomplished through training and the embedding of vocational rehabilitation staff into specific substance use treatment centers in the state of California.
Ideal candidate will have personal experience as a person in sustained recovery from substance use, or that of a family member of someone living with and managing a substance use disorder. Will have knowledge about 12-step programs and various aspects of recovery from substance abuse.
Under the direct supervision of the Staff Services Manager I, Manager of Integrating Employment in Recovery (IER) section, the Staff Services Analyst / Peer Support Specialist works with the Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) and local partner agency staff in the development of the IER program and staff support of substance use programs who are providing treatment to program participants.
This professional will work in collaboration with staff from substance use treatment facilities, state agencies, local community-based organizations, consumers, DOR staff and the IER evaluation team. The IER Peer Support Specialist performs employment/placement activities, employment preparation skills, marketing to increase employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities and peer mentoring activities for adult individuals who are in treatment for substance use disorders.
Minimal travel may be required. This position will be located at the assigned local treatment facility.
Under Government Code 14200, this position is a hybrid, in-office/telework position, and may be subject to change. Incumbent must live and work in California. Incumbent can be required to report to the office, or any designated location at any time. Telework agreements can be modified and/or cancelled at any time.

• Previous experience as a Peer Support Specialist.
• Knowledge about 12-step programs, other treatment modalities and various aspects of recovery from substance abuse.
• Knowledge of the Department of Rehabilitation, and the behavioral health system.
• Ability to support collaboration at every opportunity and mitigate interpersonal conflicts.
• Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with the program participants, stakeholders, DOR management and other state agencies.
• Ability to exercise a high degree of initiative, independence, and flexibility.
• Demonstrates the ability to use tact and good judgment.
• Demonstrates the ability to establish and foster new and existing relationships with stakeholders and agency partners.
• Knowledge of programs and services for people with disabilities.
