Home Lending Underwriter

Columbus, OH - Hybrid

3- Month Contract with Strong Potential for Extension or Conversion

Qualifications:

• Minimum three years of mortgage underwriting experience, specifically in 1st mortgage lending (including FNMA & FHLMC).
• Recent underwriting experience with conventional and government-backed lending agencies.
• Strong ability to analyze and underwrite complex loan structures, including:
• Self-employed borrowers
• Investment properties
• Construction loans
• Expanded approvals
• Expertise in cash flow analysis , reviewing complex financial documents such as:
• Personal and business tax returns
• Profit & Loss statements
• Financial statements
• In-depth knowledge of standard mortgage loan documents , including appraisals, title reports, income verification, purchase contracts, lease agreements, trusts, and warranty deeds.
• Understanding of rate sheets and product profile pricing in relation to credit decisions.
• High school diploma or equivalent work experience required.

Responsibilities:

• Underwrite residential first mortgage files submitted by loan originators or mortgage brokers, ensuring all credit and compliance documents are included for final approval.
• Confidently assess risk-based portfolio products within the Wealth Management Group .
• Manage underwriting from initial decision to clear-to-close using mortgage software in a paperless environment .
• Maintain strict adherence to department service level standards , including communication, production, and turnaround times .
• Underwrite Conventional, FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, and VA loans in compliance with regulatory guidelines.
