POSITION SUMMARY

This Magazine Production Manager oversees the execution of the art direction, page design, page production, and ad traffic for our client's monthly magazine. This includes the overall design of the publication, the management of the publications department's numerous ad files and art files, and the enforcement of production deadlines. The position lives within the publications department and works closely with the sales department, as well as other internal departments as needed.

SCOPE

Art direction/design

• Work with the director of publications and senior editors to collect various materials for page production (including copy, photographs, illustrations, and other design elements)
• Develop pacing of each issue
• Design page layouts and title typefaces for all magazine departments and features
• Work with the sales department and editors to smooth workflow and enforce deadlines
• Work with director of publications and senior editors on page proofing

Production

• Work with editors to create and maintain a yearly production calendar that includes deadlines for ad closings, files sent to printer, and co-mail
• Use Magazine Manager software to work with the sales department to track ads on a monthly and contract basis for each issue
• Pre-arrange all materials. Produce Postscript or PDF output for printer.
• Prepare artwork for separations or scans material in-house as needed
• Review magazine layout and color page proofs for quality control prior to sending to the printer, and direct printer on any changes necessary in proofing stage.
• Track all advertising and art materials during the production process
• Act as printer liaison for all editorial and advertising production

Post-Production

• Archive issues monthly
• Provide graphic files for reprints, web uploads, and other purposes as needed
• Prepare digital copy of the magazine for the website monthly

WHAT YOU NEED

• Minimum of five (5) years of print magazine design and production experience
• Experience working with sales departments on preparing monthly ad orders and pre-production reports.
• Exceptional graphic design and layout skills; ability to work on multiple projects independently and meet deadlines
• Knowledge of Adobe Software programs including Photoshop
• Demonstrated experience using InDesign
• Familiarity of print production protocol (working with vendors including printer, USPS, etc.)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

• Onsite: Office location in Atlanta, GA 30303
• (Monday - Thursday onsite, Friday remote)
• FLSA: Exempt
• Compensation: $75k-$80k
• Reports to: Director of Publications
