About Buildings + Places:  

Our Buildings + Places practice includes architecture, interiors, building and system engineering, urbanism, and planning (inclusive of landscape design), strategy +, economics, technology solutions, asset advisory, and cost and program management. This diverse team assists our clients from strategy through project realization, creating positive outcomes for those who occupy and use the buildings and environments we help to create. Our California studio focuses on the Commercial/Corporate, Science and Technology, Higher Education, and Federal market sectors. We look to combine beauty, sustainability, resiliency, equity, and innovation in our projects and believe these values can be instilled in any project regardless of size or budget. 

AECOM  is seeking a  High-Performance Buildings and Communities Intern  to be based in the Orange, CA, office.

This position is expected to begin in the summer of 2025.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing entry-level work on a variety of assignments designed to develop professional work knowledge and abilities, requiring the application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out tasks.
  • Follow instructions to accomplish tasks assigned by senior staff.
  • Meets required schedules while producing quality work.
  • Limited exercise of judgment is required on details of work and in making preliminary selections and adaptations of methodology.
  • Interns will work alongside other interns and junior staff on collecting data, conducting research, and organizing and synthesizing information to address the opportunities and/or challenges posed by specific projects and efforts for both community-based regional and national clients.

Qualifications



Minimum Requirements:

  • Candidates must be pursuing a bachelor’s program or higher in Engineering, Building Sciences, Sustainability, Architecture, or a related field and must have completed at least 1 year of study. Candidates who have recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with a master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship

Qualifications

:

  • Currently enrolled in a master’s degree program in Engineering, Building Sciences, Sustainability, Architecture, or a related field
  • Knowledge and experience undertaking building energy modeling and/or parametric design.
  • Understanding of high-performance and zero-carbon building principles and technologies
  • Scripting skillset such as Grasshopper/Python
  • Experience in building energy modeling tools such as IES VE, Energy Plus etc.
  • Experience with building performance analysis, including daylight modeling and glare analysis
  • Knowledge of sustainability assessment systems (such as LEED, WELL, ENVISION).
