Job Description

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Note: All official drafts, documents, and recommendations, as listed below, must be reviewed, finalized, and approved / accepted by appropriate BPA manager or other federal personnel with the authority to do so.

Perform graphic design and layout using a computer workstation and specialized software applications including Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Acrobat Pro.

Conceptualize, create, produce, and deliver graphic products, including:

Brochures

Publications

Reports

Posters

Flyers

Promotional and educational materials

Certificates

Signage

Exhibits/displays

Presentations/slides

Display ads

Webpage design

Infographics

Social media content.

Produce graphics with a working knowledge of other applications that may interface with a design project including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Draft illustrations, charts, graphs, and other visuals from raw data to be included in publications, presentations, or other graphic projects.

Draft items for use on the web including web layouts, web buttons, and graphics. Use tools such as Adobe Flash to create animations for internal and external websites. Modifies and size images for use online.

Evaluate approved graphics requests and meet with clients, as necessary, to brainstorm concepts and identify the appropriate graphic design solutions to meet their needs/goals.

Use the full array of graphic design tools and solutions to effectively communicate themes, issues, programs, or projects, ensuring that final products are of high quality, exhibit professionalism, and reflect well on BPA.

Take photographs of people or events to be used in publications or presentations.

Use production skills to complete jobs such as straight-edge cutting, mounting on foamcore or other surfaces, folding, scoring, framing, etc.

Use tools such as Pantone color books, tint books, and paper sample books to complete graphic jobs.

Prepare products for outside printing by creating print quality pdf files with correct print setting, creating booklets when needed, burning CDs that contain fonts, photos, and all other info, and files the printer needs to print the job.

Use preflight information to troubleshoot problems or issues with files before they are sent to the printer. Complete necessary paperwork regarding the print files.

Work with the in-house print shop or outside printing contractors to confirm jobs are printed correctly.

Verifies that the design of visual products are consistent with BPA's branding standards, visual guidelines, and logo policy.

Educate department staff, clients, and internal audiences about BPA's visual standards guidelines, proper logo use, and related policies concerning materials developed outside of the Graphics (DKC) organization.

Review other internal or external products, flag any branding concerns or violations, e.g., logo use, brand identity (colors), voice, font usage, and format), and suggest a remedy.

Support updates to the agency's branding policy, standards, and visual guidelines.

Provide quality assurance review of graphic materials.

Keep manager, other graphic designers, and clients/requestors informed on the status of projects.

Support department meetings, events, special projects, and campaigns, when assigned. This work includes participating in event/meeting, campaign planning discussions, and serving as an event photographer.

Collaborate with DKC and other Communications staff on other special projects and tasks, as needed.

Verifies that printed, electronic, and digital content is compliant with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act and accessible to people with disabilities (internally and externally).

Serve as lead coordinator for the Administrator's Excellence Awards events (luncheon, ceremony, and reception), to include:

Organize and lead planning meetings.

Maintain and update event planning materials.

Develop, update, and review AEA-related communications and promotional materials.

Research and provide recommendations for event production.

Coordinate or delegate all event support (event production, ceremony content, catering, volunteer staffing, event security).*

Mark documents and maintain filing system(s), files, emails, and records in accordance with compliance requirements. Share and disperse documents only to appropriate personnel (those with a Lawful Government Purpose (LGP) to know). Mark and maintain all official records in accordance with the Information Security (INFOSEC) and Information Governance & Lifecycle Management (IGLM) standards and procedures. Validate official records are accurately maintained for auditing purposes.

*Participation/attendance in voluntary events is NOT billable to BPA. Time spent planning and organizing these events is considered part of the duties of the position and may be performed on billable time.

REQUIREMENTS

Education & Corresponding Experience (required on matrix)

A bachelor's degree in graphic design is preferred.

6 years of experience is required.

Experience should be in graphic design, commercial art production, or a directly related field.

Required Technical Skills & Experience (required on matrix)

Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.

Preferred Skills & Experience (optional on matrix)

Knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Acrobat Pro.

Knowledge of graphic design bleeds and how to properly set up files for a bleed.

Knowledge of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, which requires federal agencies to make content accessible to people with disabilities.
