Hours: Up to 20 hours/week. The goal of the internship is to provide experiential learning in the technical, organizational and practical work of geographic information systems (GIS) datasets and maps. Principal Duties Support for GIS projects. Creation and maintenance of documentation / metadata. Creation of cartographic products. Cartographic assistance to City staff and outside customers. Perform other tasks as may be assigned to carry out the mission of GIS. Qualifications Required: High School Diploma or GED equivalent; and currently enrolled in an accredited college/university and majoring in Geography, Urban Planning, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), or related field. Must possess a basic knowledge of GIS and ESRI suite of products. Must possess and maintain a valid Texas driver's license and satisfactory driving record as specified by the City of College Station. Excellent communication and interpersonal relations skills required to work with all levels of personnel within the organization. Ability to manage multiple projects efficiently. Preferred: Experience with databases, spreadsheets, and coding (Access, Excel, Python, etc. Familiarity with mapping, surveying, and engineering principles and practices as applied to municipal systems.
