General Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer Permanent (Washington, D.C.)

Latitude Legal is seeking an experienced General Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer to lead comprehensive legal and compliance functions across multiple industries, including energy, technology, finance, international defense, and public policy. The role is fully on-site, five days per week in downtown Washington, D.C., and will report to the senior leadership team.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive legal and compliance leadership, including oversight of corporate governance, contract negotiation, risk management, and regulatory compliance programs across multiple industries and countries.
• Advise business leadership on highstakes issues, ensuring alignment of legal strategies with business objectives.
• Design, execute, and monitor compliance programs, including risk assessments, internal controls, and investigations.
• Manage cross-border transactions, drafting, negotiating, and overseeing complex agreements, MOUs, policies, and consultancy contracts.
• Maintain knowledge of U.S. federal, state, and international regulatory frameworks, including data privacy, FCPA/anticorruption, sanctions regimes, and government ethics/lobbying rules.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school; active bar membership in good standing.
• At least 10 years of legal experience, including substantial work in regulatory, compliance, government contracts, and public policy environments.
• Prior experience as General Counsel, Chief Compliance Officer, or senior in-house counsel strongly preferred.
• Expertise in cross-border transactions and experience in energy, infrastructure, technology, or public policy sectors.
• Proven track record designing and executing compliance programs and managing complex agreements.
• Strong judgment and communication skills, capable of advising senior business leaders.
• Outstanding professional references.
• Licensed or eligible to become licensed to practice law in Washington, D.C.

Position Details

• Type: Permanent, In-House
• Start Date: Early January 2026
• Schedule: Full-Time, 40 hours per week
• Location: On-site, Downtown Washington, D.C.

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary range: $200,000$250,000, with bonuses and equity compensation.
• Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, and 401(k), plus other competitive benefits.
