Job Description
A construction machine operator, also known as a construction equipment operator, uses heavy machinery to move materials and prepare sites for construction. They also perform basic maintenance on the equipment.
Responsibilities
- Use machinery to move earth, building supplies, and other heavy materials
- Operate equipment to clear and grade land
- Prepare sites for construction of roads, bridges, buildings, and more
- Perform basic maintenance on equipment
- Ensure machines are functioning well
- Train others on how to safely use the machines
- Set up and adjust machines for production runs
- Monitor machines during operations to detect any malfunctions or irregularities
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs
- Supply raw material or parts to semi-automated machines
- Check parts with precision
- Conduct tests to check the operation of machines
- Troubleshoot issues that might occur during the shift
