Duties
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate within multiple forensic disciplines such as:
- Crime scene investigation
- Lab processing of items of evidence
- Latent print analysis
- NIBIN test fire entry and analysis
- Collaborate closely with detectives, officers, and other units within the department
- Maintain accurate reports, logs, and chain of custody documentation
- Participate in continuing education and cross-training within the unit
- Support community-focused forensic services in a team-based environment
Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
- Associate’s degree or equivalent in Forensic Science or related field.
Experience:
- 1-2 years experience in same or similar previous positions.
Physical Demands:
- Work requires moderate physical exertion. Forces exerted are equivalent to lifting between 10 and 25 pounds.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Valid Arizona Class “D” Driver’s License required upon hire.
- Arizona Criminal Justice Information System Terminal Operator Certification within 6 months of hire.
- Automated Fingerprint Information System 10 Print Certification & Automated Fingerprint Information System Latent Print Certification within one year of hire.
- NIBIN entry and correlation certification within 18 months of hire.
Preferred/Desirable Qualifications:
- Associate degree (or higher) in Forensic Science, Criminal Justice, Photography, or a related field
- OR multiple years of hands-on forensic experience processing crime scenes or comparisons of latent prints
- Valid driver's license
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Willingness to work in physically demanding, messy, and sometimes unpleasant environments (e.g., outdoor crime scenes, biological hazards, odors, extreme temperatures)
- Willingness to be part of an on-call rotation for 24/7 coverage
