Job Description
PRIMARY PURPOSE - Responsible for maintaining a clean and sanitary work environment for employees; ensuring facility and regulatory compliance with all County, State, Federal, and company regulations and standards; ensuring compliance with food safety initiatives, GAP, and GMP; and providing technical expertise, training, and support for Facility operations. This role involves overseeing food safety and quality assurance processes, and leading a team dedicated to maintaining a safe and sanitary environment for produce handling and distribution.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
- Compliance Management :
o Ensure the facility complies with all local, state, and federal food safety regulations and standards (e.g., FDA, USDA).
o Stay updated with changes in food safety laws and regulations and adjust practices accordingly.
o Prepare and maintain documentation for audits and inspections.
- Food Safety Programs :
o Develop, implement, and monitor food safety and quality assurance programs, including HACCP, GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices), and sanitation procedures.
o Conduct regular food safety audits and inspections to ensure adherence to safety protocols.
o Implement corrective actions and preventive measures for any identified food safety issues.
- Training and Development :
o Train and educate staff on food safety practices, hygiene, and sanitation procedures.
o Ensure all employees are certified in food safety and maintain ongoing training records.
- Sanitation and Hygiene :
o Oversee cleaning and sanitation processes for equipment, facilities, and produce handling areas.
o Monitor and ensure proper use of cleaning agents and sanitizers.
o Conduct regular inspections to assess the effectiveness of sanitation practices.
- Incident Management :
o Investigate and manage food safety incidents, including contamination, recalls, and non-compliance issues.
o Coordinate with suppliers, customers, and regulatory agencies during incident resolution.
- Temperature and Environmental Control :
o Monitor and control temperature and environmental conditions for produce storage and handling.
o Ensure proper calibration and maintenance of temperature monitoring equipment.
- Pest Control :
o Develop and oversee pest control programs to prevent contamination.
o Collaborate with pest control contractors to address and resolve pest issues.
- Inventory and Waste Management :
o Ensure proper handling, storage, and documentation of produce inventory.
o Oversee waste management practices, including the disposal of spoiled or contaminated produce.
- Reporting and Documentation :
o Maintain accurate records of food safety inspections, training, audits, and incident reports.
o Prepare and submit reports as required by regulatory agencies and company management.
- Team Leadership :
o Lead, mentor, and manage food safety staff, including assigning tasks and conducting performance reviews.
o Foster a culture of food safety awareness and continuous improvement within the team.
