Job Summary: Estimating is a cost-finding process that requires the ability to develop a plan of production based on specifications submitted on quotation requests and accurately assign cost and pricing based on established pricing guidelines. The estimator must have comprehensive knowledge of printing, book making processes as well as a basic understanding of cost accounting, good math skills, ability to multitask, excellent communication skills. The incumbent must possess an aptitude for sales and must maintain strong attention to detail and have an interest in preventing errors and solving problems. Duties/Responsibilities: Prepare estimates based on customer specifications as received from the Sales Team. Accurately Price production work using various pricing programs with established standards and pricing procedures. Prepare estimates for all nonstandard work by establishing a production plan with outside vendors and or other Sheridan locations. Evaluate and set quote pricing level based on quote details, customer, market feedback and historical pricing data. Process and document schedule requests. Create and maintain customer pricing strategies documentation within core business system. Assist other estimators if backlog exists in their area, help maintain department goal of quick turnaround of customer bid requests. Provide accurate quote in process data. Understand book manufacturing production sequences. Have basic technical knowledge of all manufacturing equipment parameters. Obtain outside manufacturing and/or materials pricing. Help Customer Service and FEPS by offering production and pricing information. Assist Estimating Manager with various pricing tasks. Modify the formal price proposal document so the quoted details reflect pricing. Finalize the quote document by logging out of Estimating and distributing to the salesperson and to the customer designated contact person. Help Pre-Billing with non-standard pricing and quote order entry requests when required. Help with pricing options for production / sales on makeovers and reworks. Obtain accurate motor / air freight pricing on active jobs. Help maintain the estimating systems material database. Basic Qualifications: Associates degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent math, analytical, problem solving, and communication skills. Ability to understand and follow established pricing procedures and guidelines. Effective communication skills. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, breakeven points. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to adhere to all company policies and procedures in a professional and consistent manner. Able to apply common sense understanding and use appropriate judgment in routine business situations with supervisor, co-workers, and customers. Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel and Word) at an intermediate to advanced level. Desired Skills and Abilities: Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or five years plus related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of book printing, pricing systems, markups, and job costing preferred. Physical Requirements Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times. Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.
