Seeking an entry- to junior-level Environmental Scientist, Engineer or Geologist to work in a technical support role with highly skilled professionals or diverse project teams in a dynamic environment.. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Under general supervision, conduct regular field work including sampling collection in a variety of seasonal conditions including subcontractor scheduling
  • Conduct routine site investigation and data evaluation activities to observe existing conditions and assessment
  • Works with existing staff to review data, data management, report completion, subcontractor interaction, etc.
  • Prepare calculations, proposals, cost estimates and written reports
  • Technical writing to include editing and report finalization
  • Assist with preparation of advanced reports (comprehensive site assessments, SPCC plans, SP001 inspections, UST closure reports, remedial action plans) and data summaries (soil boring logs, site maps, photographic logs)
  • Collect soil and groundwater samples in accordance with applicable standards
  • Interaction with third-party and regulatory agents to ensure contract, federal, state and local compliance with regulations
  • Create/interpret maps for use in the field and reports including figures, tables, and database management
  • Submit complete and thorough permit applications including technical specifications/calculations and maps
  • Provide high technical quality and safe job performance
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 0 to 2 years of experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Geology, engineering disciplines or related field
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite
  • Working knowledge of federal (EPA/SPCC/STI/NFPA), state (MDE / VADEQ / DOEE / PADEP / DNREC) and local regulations
  • Obtained or working toward EIT/PE/PG-certification
  • Well-developed organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to perform work outside under variable terrain and weather conditions
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and in an organized fashion
  • Highly motivated, self-starters that want to establish a career in environmental consulting
  • Must be multi-tasked, detail-oriented and a team player with strong technical writing, problem solving, analytical, planning and communication skills

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience preparing permit applications and coordinating approvals
  • Ability to establish and maintain cost/budget estimates
  • Working knowledge of environmental regulations in MD, DC, VA, DE and PA
  • Contributing member of professional organizations
  • Experience with GPS devices and/or various soil and groundwater sampling tools
  • Understanding of regulations for SWPPP, SPCC and E&S in DC, MD and VA
  • Professional Registration (eg, EIT/PE, GIT)
  • Construction experience including OSHA Hazwoper 40 Hour Certification and General Industry 10 or 30 Hour Certifications are a plus

Additional Requirements:

Requires the use of a company or personal vehicle on company business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license, have an acceptable driving record and receive a medical clearance from a baseline physical. This classification requires travel to various project locations. Travel typically involves day trips within the state or neighboring states, resulting in longer work days; and may include extended and/or further travel, resulting in multiple days and overnights. Long-term assignments may be required. Typically involves 30% fieldwork and 70% office work.

Candidate must have the ability to: Walk up and down slopes and on uneven terrain; work outdoors in extreme weather conditions for up to 10-12 hours per day; and lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Work will be split between field and office work. Field work will primarily be in the mid-Atlantic but could be anywhere based on client needs, so the ability to travel and work remotely and on weekends or extended hours (as needed) is required. Candidate must also possess the ability to gain entry into DOD facilities.

Candidates should be fluent in the English language and possess excellent verbal/written communication skills. Candidates must be able to professionally interact with clients, subcontractors, professionals and the general public. Candidates must be able to work independently within a team and also be a collaborative team member that approaches challenges with a positive attitude. Candidates must be able to function with little direction to meet project goals and able to take conceptual direction for project tasks and developed detail plans to complete task.
