Summary:
The Dispatcher II will receive calls for emergency services. The dispatcher will determine the appropriate response/priority and direct the call to the appropriate personnel or responder while maintaining officer safety checks. Relays officer safety information. This position maintains the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and CAD database with required information. Performs Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) operations for information inquiries and retrieval.
Minimum Requirements:
Driving: Must have a valid Kansas driver's license and be insurable with the Nation's insurance
Experience: Zero to six months of similar or related experience. Must possess a valid Kansas driver's license free of occupational restrictions, must be insurable with the Nation's insurance.
Education: HS Diploma/GED, must successfully complete the Dispatch training basic law enforcement communication officer (BLECO) course, EMD, 1st aid CPR, BIA BLECO course, NCIC certification and the full 90-day probationary period, beginning at hire date
Interpersonal Skills: A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or can be of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.
Knowledge:
o Knowledge of laws, legal codes, relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
o Knowledge of Microsoft Word programs and computer/office equipment.
o Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
o Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customers and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
o Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.

Abilities:
o Ability of being able to work the assigned schedule and available as needed to work a flexible schedule to meet the demands of the position, which may include nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime. Shift time can vary-TBD by Chief of Police.
o Ability to be reliable, punctual, and dependable in order to meet the needs of the department and Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation.
o Ability to work with frequent interruptions.
o Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
o Ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.
