Description Dispatching of police, medical and fire services on a county-wide basis. Calls for services received from various police agencies and E911 system. Operate police radio system, national crime computer system, E911 computer system and other small business machines. Receive, secure and disseminate information to and from police officers, police agencies, citizens and other emergency public agencies. Performs other duties, as required. Including, but not limited to, miscellaneous Boone County Jail Duties. i.e. searches, change-outs etc.

- Test weather sirens in Madrid, Ogden, Boone, and Rural Boone County towns on the first Monday of every month.
- Test Pages nightly at 1800 hours for all agencies in Boone County.
- Perform monthly validations of records maintained within the State and NCIC systems, required by Technology Services and the Department of Public Safety.
Essential Qualifications - Extensive periods of sitting.
- Ability to lift up to twenty (20) pounds.
- Constant reaching, dexterity, talking, hearing, near and far sight acuity, depth perception, concentration, judgment and writing ability.
- Intermittent handling, feeling, depth perception and field of vision. Must be able to see in color.
- Moderate exposure to wet and or humid conditions, noise intensity level, confined spaces and dirt / dust.
- Pressure / stress of receiving / transmitting telecommunications messages.
- On occasion messages may be of "shocking" nature.
Education and Licenses To be completed within six (6) months of employment: - CPR and AED Certifications
- Iowa / NCIC Certification through Technology Services
- 40 Hour Basic Telecommunicator Class at ILEA
- EMD Certification
PAID HOLIDAYS: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving Day, Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve afternoon, Christmas Day, and one floating Holiday.
VACATION: New employees are eligible to use accrued vacation time after
6 months of continuous employment.
Full-time Employees on a 40-hour week schedule:
0-1 year (accrue 1.54 hours per pay period) (One week)
1-4 years (accrue 3.08 hours per pay period) (Two weeks)
4-15 years (accrue 4.62 hours per pay period) (Three weeks)
15 years (accrue 6.15 hours per pay period) (Four weeks)
Full-time Employees on a 37.5-hour week schedule:
0-1 year (accrue 1.45 hours a pay period) (One Week)
1-4 years (accrue 2.89 hours a pay period) (Two Weeks)
4-15 years (accrue 4.33 hours a pay period) (Three Weeks)
15 years (accrue 5.77 hours a pay period) (Four Weeks)
SICK LEAVE: Employees will accumulate
18 days of sick leave per year.
Employee maximum accumulated sick leave is
120 days.
Full-time regular employees start to earn sick leave from their most recent date of hire but will not be eligible to use paid sick leave until after completing
3 months of continuous employment.
PERSONAL LEAVE: A full-time employee hired between January 1st and June 30th shall receive
two personal days upon hire, and a full-time employee hired between July 1st and December 31st shall receive
one personal day upon hire. These days must be used on or before December 31st or will be forfeited.
Every January 2nd all full-time employees will receive
two personal days that must be used on or before December 31st or will be forfeited.
An employee who has accumulated the maximum of sick leave (120 days) and has maintained that maximum at the end of the pay period December 31st. shall be eligible for an additional
one day of personal leave each calendar year.
LIFE INSURANCE: The County will pay the premium for each eligible regular full-time employee for a $10,000 life insurance policy selected by the County. In addition, the County will pay the premium for a $2,000 life insurance policy for the employee's spouse and a $1,000 life insurance policy for each of the employee's children over 14 days of age. Employees may choose additional life insurance at their cost.
HEALTH INSURANCE: Full-time employees are defined as those that are regularly scheduled to work at least 37.5 or 40 hours per week. Full-time employees are eligible for benefits at the 1st of the month following their first 30 days as a Boone County employee unless otherwise noted.
The County shall pay 82% of the single and family employee health insurance premium with the employee picking up the remainder. Boone County is partially self-funded and offers the employees a choice of three PPO plans and one HMO Plan administered by Wellmark.
Employees may choose vision and dental insurance at their cost.
IPERS: The County is a member of the Iowa Public Employees' Retirement System (IPERS). Your membership in IPERS is automatic if you are a permanent full or part-time public employee, regardless of the amount of wages or compensation you receive. The IPERS Plan is a defined benefit plan with a qualified plan status under the federal Internal Revenue Code Section 401(a). A defined benefit plan provides a lifetime benefit
calculated using a formula. Your benefits grow with you during your working career. So, as your years of service and salary increase, your IPERS benefits also grow. At retirement, you receive the benefit you earned regardless of the performance of the stock market.
