Horizon House of Illinois Valley, Inc. is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Human Resources to lead our HR department.

Horizon House is a nonprofit organization in north central Illinois that provides services and supports to people with disabilities and their families. We provide services and opportunities to the people we support to be able to discover their goals and dreams. We support people in their homes, at their jobs, and in the community. We support people with disabilities in creating and living the lives they choose.

As the Director of Human Resources (DHR) , you will be a key strategic partner to the Executive Team, responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing human resources initiative that supports the organization's vision and mission and fosters a positive workplace culture .

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead HR initiatives that enhance operational efficiency, employee performance, and organizational culture
  • Develop and monitor HR department goals, objectives, and systems
  • Design and implement strategies to create a positive, supportive work environment that aligns with organizational values
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable labor laws and regulations
  • Gather, analyze, and report on key HR metrics and workforce data to support strategic decision-making
  • Design competitive compensation and benefits programs
  • Create and implement succession planning for key positions
  • Serve as the primary contact for union negotiations and contract administration
  • Manage the grievance process and represent the organization during arbitration proceedings
  • Ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resource Management or related field required.
  • Master Degree in HR Preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive HR experience with at least 3 years in a management role.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in union negotiations and contract administration
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing successful HR strategies and initiatives.
  • Proven experience in implementation and working with a Human Resources Information System (HRIS). Paycom preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of HR best practices, employment laws, and regulations
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • SHRM -SCP or SPHR certification preferred.
