Clinical Director & Consultant in ED - South East/Essex Region

Triple West Medical is currently working with an NHS Trust to appoint an experienced Emergency Medicine Consultant for the role of Clinical Director, leading the department to the next level of performance. The ED Consultant position is permanent, and the Clinical Director role has a 3-year tenure.

The Trust employs over 10,000 staff providing comprehensive acute and community services across multiple sites to a population of over 1 million. The successful candidate will possess excellent clinical skills and demonstrate leadership on the shop floor. Active involvement in teaching and supervising multidisciplinary staff is expected.

The Emergency Department currently sees over 100,000 attendances in 23/24. The role involves joining and leading a 13-consultant on-call rota and adopting a flexible approach to job planning to meet service needs.

Responsibilities

  • Promote a friendly, team-based working environment aligned with Trust values
  • Undertake managerial and budgetary responsibilities as required
  • Teach primary care colleagues and junior medical staff through case reviews and formal teaching
  • Provide clinical services in accordance with the Trust's clinical governance standards
  • Assist in designing and implementing service reconfiguration, ensuring coordination with commissioners, community, social care, and stakeholders
  • Standardize clinical pathways across sites and with local providers
  • Develop assessment models to reduce hospital admissions where appropriate
  • Support the Site Medical Director, Medical Lead, and SDEC Lead in overseeing service performance and making necessary adjustments
  • Review and respond to performance reports and regional KPIs
  • Establish and develop outcome measures at the service level
