Job Summary
The Analytical Science department is part of the SABIC global Corporate Technology and Innovation (T&I) organization, with multiple locations across the globe. The analytical science organization in North America provides extensive analytical expertise in the area of advanced chromatography, spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and microscopy to support T&I programs across Strategic Business Units, delivering innovative solutions for the circular economy, in automotive, healthcare, building and construction, electronics and other markets.
We are currently looking for a skilled recent graduate or junior level professional with broad laboratory experience in general analytical chemistry areas to join our team. You will work with senior analytical staff and collaborate with product and process scientists and technologists to provide high quality analytical data to advance ongoing research projects. Additionally, the successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining instruments and equipment in the analytical laboratory. This position requires excellent communication and effective time management skills to conduct multiple project tasks and meet timelines while paying the utmost attention to safe practices and conditions and data integrity. Working with minimal supervision, the individual should be able to multi-task within a dynamic team environment.

How You Can Be the Impact
Perform analytical testing in chromatography, spectroscopy and relevant physical property testing to support technology, manufacturing and customer issue requests. Applying analytical chemistry/characterization skills to evaluate the composition, structure, and properties of chemical and polymeric materials.
Provide high quality analytical data to support product and process development teams for commercialization of new technologies, optimization or enhancement of existing products or processes.
Develop robust analytical methods and implement sampling and measurement protocols.
Complete workload as assigned within project timelines. Operate, troubleshoot and oversee maintenance of analytical instruments. Ensure equipment availability through timely maintenance and troubleshooting. Maintain inventory of supplies and consumables. Ensure reliability and continuity of service.
Contribute to team activities in Analytical Science organization, participate in cross-functional and global safety, quality improvement and knowledge exchange programs.
Follow safety procedure, build and maintain high safety standards within the team. Fully participate in analytical lab safety and housekeeping duties.
Document methods and processes in accordance with EHS (Environment, health and safety) policies including SOPs (Standard Operation Procedure) and MOCs (Management of Change).
What Matters to SABIC
Junior level analytical chemist requires BS with 3+ years’ working experience, or a master’s degree. A degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, physics, bioscience, materials science or other related fields is desired.
Broad knowledge of analytical techniques in the areas of chromatography, elemental analysis, spectroscopy, wet chemistry. Demonstrated hands-on technical experience in above analytical techniques. Knowledge of characterization of petrochemical products and polymers is a plus.
Ability to work independently on multiple projects with high enthusiasm and drive.
Hands-on mindset with flexibility, creativity and independence.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Working knowledge of the hazards of handling chemicals, a working knowledge of MSDSs, and an understanding of wet laboratory practices and analysis.
